How I built my Teaching Tech Skills
I graduated from a teacher training college but not with much technology skills. How will I become a well-rounded teacher if I don’t have idea on practical applications of technologies in teaching profession? While in college, I was engrossed with the Internet, Yahoo search was the in thing, but it was sufficient to download some books on educational technology. I started developing interest in some digital applications, then boom! Google surfaced, I now have access to speed and large information that got me equipped with some technology skills.
In 2005 I worked, as homeroom teacher in a school that has some interest in use of technology for learning and it became a thing of interest to me. I attended a computer school for basic computer skills and I was able to learn many tech skills with Internet.
Today, It’s easy for me to learn any technology tools. I use many Google tools, Microsoft suites, Adobe Suites that includes: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, after effects and so on. I can operate many learning tools in and outside classroom and most software that helps in Desktop publishing. I can easily learn any application used by any organisation I work with without stress. You can effortlessly adapt to any application introduced by your school when you have some good tech background. You can limit your calls for incessant technology support when you can solve some tech issues.
I got to this level because I had curiosity and tenacity to learn technology.
